The K9 national project manages all canine related honorary ranger activity in our national parks.
Poaching in our national parks remains a major conservation challenge in South Africa. The K9 anti-poaching units are considered a game changer in the conservation of our wildlife and have resulted in positive results in the anti-poaching initiatives.
Well trained dogs such as Bloodhound Doberman cross, Belgian Shepherds’ or Malinois are perfectly suited to track poachers in the field and detect firearms, ammunition and wildlife products that enter and exit through the park gates. These remarkable dogs can follow hours – old scent over vast distances.
Tracker dogs are deployed by helicopter or vehicle and operate throughout the park. Since the inception of the K9 unit in 2012 the number of working dogs have increased substantially and they are now being used throughout the Kruger Park. Due to the success in the Kruger National Park the project has extended to other national parks across the country.
An integral contributor to the success of these units is the support of the SANParks Honorary Rangers.
We sincerely thank you for your contribution to our K9 golf day fundraiser. This will assist in ensuring that the K9 Project Watchdog remains so successful. Without the generosity of people like you we would not be able to ensure that these units operate as effectively as they do.
The donation you made is greatly appreciated.
